India is a unique country in the world, with a long history as people, nation and ethnic groupings. It appears to be as a cohesive force, unified under a flag and of course as a nation it has forged a new incredible identity and for which we are full of pride yet when we take closer look, and go beyond nationalistic fervors etc. and look very closely into our social fabric, we are able to see incredibly large number of colors and hues, more than probably ever imagined by any artist of the world. Each of these zillion colors is unique and different yet appears to be so close to the next.
YES It is quite close.
It is close but it is different. This difference or diversity make this fabric very attractive.
This very reason makes India an enormously appealing subject of study for all social scientists and anthropologists of the world, who can never finish or conclude understanding it. Even most Indians born in India do not understand it.
Is this difference a racial element?
Is this difference a differing ethnic element?
Well there is no academic answer or definition to this extra rich diversity and if I do not go to the subject here, I can probably submit another thesis, which is not the intention. My intention is to clear once and for all, the historical errors and ommisions accepted gradually by our past generations as words of Gods.
If we sow seeds of hate, superiority, inferiority complexes and treatment of individuals on the basis of their physical appearance and pigmentation, This extra rich diversity can also become an extra poor mentality and attitude when it comes to social customs and traditions.
In few words, when it comes to social relations, there is an apartheid like regime in Indian society.

If you are a blind nationalist you will probably deny it and call me narrow minded etc. however if you are reform minded and interested in seeing in India a better society, you will probably accept this situation as reality and NOT synthetic words of a common man like me.

And we have been blind, conformists and dormant in past thousand years or so and the radical extremists adamant to exploit human dignity and diversity have been using the caste based divide and rule politics to fool the various layers of the society.
However Indians do not know how to define their racism and attitude of segregation.
They simplify it as Caste system and attempts to quote Manu smariti - a debatable scripture written by some mysterious Aryan noble called Manu, [Gods do not write nor speak a language] which Tulsidas quoted in his Ramayana and which Vaishnavs [Vishunites] and others have propagated for years to tell the world that Brahmins are the head of Brahmin and Shudras [lower castes] are his feet] etc.
This phantasmagoric, pseudo literary manipulative piece of literature has destroyed Indian society and created a monster which will eventually be wiped off by urban encroachment, social equalization, education and globalization.
I declare today from this humble corner of the networks, that This is OVER.
India of future of next millenium will bury this relic as a great joke and we will forge a new identity for ourselves and we will rewrite a new history for our people.
This bullying and snobbish garbage, which was a MISREPRESENTATION of the original texts; has to be removed from our society's mentality and thrown to the purifying fires of Vedik Havan.
IF you are a true Indian and part of this global community, you are not going to believe or follow this stupid drama anymore and we are not going to treat an individual as untouchable, low caste or a creep.

We are FREE to marry anyone of our choice, be it of any caste, creed, belief or color.
Because we are Hindu Sanatan dharam followers.
Sanatan dharam means continual, incessant or eternal duty.
Our eternal and prime duty is to treat every single living being as our equal as Buddha found after great meditation enlightenment.
The Vedas - ei the ancient knowledge - declared Sanatan Dharma as means of attaining the sum-mum bonum or the final emancipation for individual, also known as Nirvana - is the eternal duty or sanatan dharma.
Sruti, Smritis, itihaas and puranas were added as continual flow of knowledge to Hindu way of life but the clever people disguised as priests manipulated them to their benefit. Wherever they could see a chance to fit their mean interests.
See this line from Ramayana which Tulsidas excerpted from Manu Smariti.
Eg. Dhol Ganwaar Shudra Pashu Naari, Ye Sab tarhan ke adhikaari
Which literally means that drum, illiterate, shudra, animal and women must be beaten to keep them fit.
India's deep cultural roots are in the ancient relics, some of the oldest pieces of literature, in the form of Srutis, Smritis, Itihaas and Puranas.
Srutis are documents transferred from generation to generation by hearing.
Smritis are documents re-written and re-interpreted as memory.
Itihaas is recorded history of different time periods.
Puranas have Panch lakshan or five characteristcs ei history, cosmology which includes spiritual symbolism Hindu philosophy, secondary creation, geneoalogy of kings and of mythological characters.
Puranas were the most interesting and made good hearing or reading for common people.
The Vedik documents of enormous value were initially Srutis and Smaritis as the recorded materials used to get lost. In the re-writing process a lot of code, in Sanskrit language was changed or altered and modified by interested parties.
Most PEOPLE at that time, did not have access to these Sanskrit texts for various reasons and they were not put for open debate. There was no internet then nor zillion magazines and newspapers.
Most people did not even know what was the source of inspiration for their rulers and human writers of fate.
Hinduism is the oldest way of living and a very rich philosophy and all sciences are inherent in this ancient civilization.
Hinduism stands unrivalled in the depth of its philosophy and its ethical teachings are lofty, unique, eternal and sublime. It is highly flexible and adapted to every human need and time.
Thus the rigid, the inflexible and chartered codes are fake, fraudulent documents and need to be destroyed from our genes.
Hinduism has survived till today for the flexible and adaptable nature of its theories and philosophy.
However the rigid part will never let us grow nor keep the great river of wisdom and knowledge flow and take its course, if we do not change these unacceptable and misinterpreted parts.
By purity, the ancient sages meant the internal purity NOT the external purity as later on adapted and manipulated by high priests.
Purity of body is just symbolic but purity of interior and soul is more vital.
I would like to declare and appeal to all Hindus of the world that we should correct one of the biggest lies and frauds of our spiritual and pseudo social history:
Varnashrama dharma theory - said to be the fundamentals of the Hinduism - has nothing to do with Varnashram of Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Sudra. If it has to do, for sure not in the present context.
THE TRUE MEANING OF FOUR SOCIAL DIVISIONS CALLED CASTES OR PURITY GROUPS
Original meaning and mention of Ashram of Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Sudra in this regard was to justify and explain that in ONE single life, an individual go through or can go through Ashram or stage or state of mind of Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Sudra by Guna-Karma [aptitude and conduct] ei that one person can become
this or that by his aptitude, attitude, actions, conduct and behaviour.
This extra ordinary beautiful way of explaining a life - essential theory of manu smariti - was ALTERED, MANIPULATED AND TAILORED TO FIT THE NEEDS OF INTERESTED PARTIES and which has been propagated by few clever and crooked minded so-called social protectors, little evil, cruel and ruthless rulers, arrogant clans and self styled Hitlers of different times.
Caste system misinterpretation and fraud :
Varna has been interepreted as color and ashram as stage in context of 4 social divisions.
Caste is a latin word Casta which Portuguese introduced in 15th century in India which literally means chaste or pure. Some Clever Indians immediately used it for their evil use of interpretation of JAATI.
Jaativad was always rejected by true sages of Hinduism.
In some studies there was a mention of over 10000 jaatis and 25.000 up-jaatis or sub-castes.
This is absurd and foolish to suggest that all these jaatis or castes were part of Brahan, kshatriya theor.
The jaatis mentioned here were originally ethnic groupings of Indians, which were communities of different origins which intermarried to keep their social purity.
So you can see there is a clear definition of difference between Caste and Jaati and The 4 caste theory.
This historical fraud must end.
Human society must perform and for that every individual must perform his duties efficiently.
Hindu sages formed an ideal scheme of society and an ideal way of individual life, which was known as Varnashrama Dharma.
Yet it never meant that individual will inherit the duties of his/her forefathers forever for next zillion generations.
The mention in rig Veda E.I. most ancient knowledge etc. of Purusha Sukta which described there that the Brahmans form the face of the Lord, the Creator, Kshatriyas His Arms, Vaishyas His Thighs and the Shudras His Feet.
This division as per Guna and Karma was grossly misinterpreted by idiots and adapted to favor the so called
Brahminical people who considered or self styled themselves as the HIGHEST.
This is the biggest fraud and grosses misuse of words by any group of people.
I will attempt to explain this theory in simple words for you [You are free to write, quote all the texts and Ph.D. thesis to prove the popular interpretations but I declare herewith that all the pseudo academic theories proving the Indian caste system as legitimate tool to segregate the society; are waste of time of humanity]:
Real Meaning of Colors
As per the same scriptures there are three qualities or Gunas, E.I. Sattva [purity], Rajas or Rajs [Passion/compassion] and Tamas or Tams [literally dark but really Inertia].
Sattva is white, raj is red and tam is dark.
Sattva or purity was considered white for the color of illumination.
Rajas is a corruption of the word Rakt which literally means blood in Sanskrit.
Since blood appears to be red rajas has been considered red.
You must have heard a word in Hindi that when a girl reaches puberty she is called Rajassavla.
Tama, tams or tamas literally means darkness or andhera [blinding dark] and darkness is usually
Considered as Black.
These are internal qualities or gunas of a human being NOT external.
These 3 essential qualities are found in a man in varying degrees and proportions.
Four ashrams or orders of life are
Brahmacharya, Grihastha, VanyaPrasthan and Sanyassa.
Ashram or asrama is derived from Sanskrit word Ashrya or to take refuge or rest or stop.
So in simple and plain lingo it means stages of life. We will discuss 4 Varna Ashrams interpreted for internal purity and lifespan.
Brahamcharya is a period for Scholarship and studies.
Here Brahama + Achar a person with Sattvik gunas + Behaviour is a Brahamachari or in Brahamacharya ashram.
Literally it means a celibate too by some people.
Grihastha means household which is a stage where person is supposed to fulfill his marital duties, raise kids and have a meaningful life.
Vanyaprasthan literally means a stage when one should leave for forest which in plain language means a time for reflection, children are grown up and person is supposed to retire from routine and work and give his time for society and social trust, a time for manan, chintan ei meditation and thinking.
Sanyasssa is complete retirement from sansara or mayavi duniya or material life and a total renouncement.
A sanyasi or bhikshuk as called by Buddhists is a person who has seen the world and renounced it volunteerly to seek moksha or final emanicipation for oneself.
Some clever priests and popes of Hinduism re-invented and altered the above as that Priests or Brahmins are Sattva [white], Kshatriyas as [red] and Shudras and all others as tam [dark] and servants of above.
This was a complete manipulation of the original theory.
TRUTH and Reality
In broader sense, a Sattvik or person with high degree of Sattva who is pious, virtuous and leads the divine life is Brahmin or whose interior is of white element.
A Rajasic or person with high degree of Rajs, who has heroic skills and can protect himself from INDERIYAS Maya or the attraction of Senses - in other words - a jeetendera or jeetendriya is Kshatriya.
Whereas a rajasic man with business attitude is a Vaisya or vanik or a man of commerce.
A Tamasic or person with high degree of Tamas or Tams or darkish pravarti or nature, who does not read, write or engage in dramatically unsocial activity or does not enlighten his mind by education or training is a Shudra.
WHO IS then A White, red or Black ?
Read this and you will know which caste you belong to..
A True Brahmin ?
One who is more like Sattvik is a Brahmin irrespective of his name, religion, fathers occupation or any other attributes. One who is Sattvik pravarti or one who has white or enlightened interior is in reality a Brahmin.
No matter, how dark or white his skin color is. A true and real Brahmin is who is studious, knowledgeable, with noble attributes of a human being and one who leads a clean and virtuous life..
SO all the guys with names like Sharma, Sarma, Pundit, Narayana, Shukla bla bla bla or all castes and groups claiming they are Brahmins are frauds, false and fake if they do NOT project the true Sattvik qualities.
Self restraint, austerity, purity, serenity, forgiveness and uprightness, knowledge, realization of self, and belief in Natures rules are the dharma of a Brahmin.
Anyone who claims to be a Brahmin and lack above must not use the word BRAHMIN ever.
Is it clear ?
A True Kshatriya and Vaisya ?
One, who is more like Rajasic or person with high degree of Rajas in his interior, who has heroic skills and can protect himself from INDERIYAS Maya or the attraction of Senses - in other words - a jeetendera or jeetendriya is true Kshatriya. All people with names as Thakur, Singh, Veer or other hero sounding names are absolute frauds and fakes if they do NOT have true rajas or heroic skills and control over the attraction of senses.
Do not try to fool people with saying that you are a warrior class or caste as that is a fraud.
Any person is a warrior who knows how to protect himself from vices and from the viciousness of senses.
A true warrior or kshatriya does not need to be born in a kshatriya or khatri family.
Take a note.
One who is a rajasic man with business attitude is a Vaisya or vanik or a man of commerce.
All people who say they belong to the business caste or this or that trader subcaste are fooling themselves.
All the vaisya sounding titles and surnames are a fraud if you do not have the basic rajas element which means an aptitude for business and trade plus the qualities of a kshatriya.
You now will decide who is a khatriya by knowing his inner color E.I. antar pravarit or interior nature.
Prowess, firmness, dexterity, generosity, splendor, protection of weaker than one, are the prime duties of a Kshatirya. To cultivate, create, provide and enrich the world with skills of business, trade and commerce are the duties of a Vaisya.
Anyone who claims to be a born Vaisya or Kshatriya but lacks any of the above must never call himself one.
Period.
WHO IS A True Sudra, Shudra, Low Caste, Untouchable and Dark ?
One, who has more Tamasic element or person with high degree of Tamas or Tams or darkish pravarti or nature, and tamas is of dark color, who does not read, write or engage in dramatically unsociable activity or does not enlighten his mind by education or training, creates problems for others, engages in unlawful, unsociable acvities, destroys or encourages destruction of nature, environment and Gods creations including humans, engages in rape, plunder, loot and illegal possession of others property, thinks negatively for himself, loses his self esteem and inflict unspeakable wounds on himself, is a Shudra.
Now you know who is a Shudra.
Anyone who considers or declares himself a dalit, shudra, low caste, untouchable or unworthy MUST immediately stop using this adjectives and see the attributes provided above.
Anyone who has an interior full of tamas or darkness or dark color is indeed a low caste, low class, black or untouchable for he is uncultivated or unsociable.
Stop calling yourself a low caste or low class or black or dark.
YOU are NOT.
You have more Sattvik qualities you are a Brahmin.
You identify with rajas qualities or red nature, you are a kshatriya or vaisya.
If you are truly full of tamas qualities you are then for sure a shudra in your own eyes.
Your Character and your color of interior determines your caste
The color of skin has NOTHING to do with Castes.
Is this clear.
If not I can explain to anyone in simple lingo.
As you can see, this is the exact and real meaning and interpretation of Rig Vedas' reference on Purusha-Sukta.
We must RECTIFY the historical and ancient mistakes.
The scriptures in original form were perfect however in the period of time gone, some clever elements re-interpreted the whole thing and started associating it with color of skin, thus causing enormous damage to Indian people and civilization. This MUST stop now by all means.
All educated people must learn about this manipulation and change their attitudes.
We are not Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas or Shudras.
Yes We CAN become Brahmins or Vaishyas or Kshatriyas or Shudras by our present behaviour and the grade and degree of Sattvik, Rajasik and Tamasik elements.

So it is all in our interior and it all depends on the individual to decide which caste he wants to belong to!

I am a warrior in that I fight the social stigma that my particular culture holds onto as if it was God's truth. If anyone was to see God's truth they would be filled with shame at the way they have lifted themselves up, and put their shoe on another and smothered them to the ground.

I'm white (in australia, originally from england) and I read that and I was just thinking "why would anyone want to be white?!". I know im generalising here, but white people have done so many bad things in the past and there is nothing special about us so why would anyone want to be like us? I actually wish I was a bit darker...And to tell you the truth, I like the darker Indians best!! Haha

You are absolutely right.
Indeed people of India due to social stigma and their definition of beauty enforces the idea of whiter or fairer being more beautiful.
Majority of Indians are tanned and some in South and East are much more tanned and even in Northern and Western part, exposure to high temperature leaves its impression on any kind of skin.
But the love of fairer skin comes from a foolish belief from our recent history whereby most rulers were whiter and fairer.
This is one of the reasons Indians still bow and fall in feet of any white skinned person of any origin and feel disgust at darker skinned people.
Indians like Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and most other Asians are the Most racist people on this planet.
No doubts about that!!
Education, economic upliftment and more awareness will change the current mind set in next few decades hopefully.
Now you need not be apologizing for historical atrocities of European colonial tribes for Arabs, Turks and Mongols have done much much much worse atrocities and mass murders in past history.
Most such people keep throwing insults at each other without realizing that all humanity is victim of same evil attributes and that is common in all human beings.

I agree with you. I've seen this kind of discrimination everywhere and now more when i'm in situation where this caste system is trying to overpower what i would want to do. And politicians have made it worse by introducing reservation so heavily.
A persons identity should be defined by his/her deeds and not by the caste. And if as per the history these caste barriers are created by us ppl themselves then why cant we break this system. It may not go away completely but it shall loose its effect slowly.
Kaplia, write more about the good experienecs where this caste system is overpowered by education, intercaste marriages, deeds etc. Share your experiences and knowledge more so that people like who never bothered about this caste system who have fallen into situations where they are in dilemma whether to follow this caste system or throw it away and move on.

Hi everyone, i'm in a situation where i'm supposed to make a choice. And thats because of this caste based discrimination followed in India. And the situation is that i like a boy who belongs to low caste (SC). For me mental compatibility and education is more important than caste. But my parents do have lot of concerns like
- after marriage i would loose my status(caste).
- what about the kids? What would they belong to?
Would they be half-brahmin and half SC or SC only?
I mean on what basis the social status is decided? As per history the underprivlieged ppl were categorised as shudra/Dalit/low caste or whatever. Now if both the parents are educated and capable and earning good then my question to the society is that what would the kids be called? If they would still carry the fathers status, then my question is why SC? because the kid is privileged now. is it not better to call them casteless?

Before that i never bothered about the caste system. It never occured and i never discriminated.
Now i want to educate myself on this caste system so that i can fight for myself against this system.
You seem to have studied the caste system followed in india in depth. Could you explain me the difference between SC-ST-OBC-Dalit and how these categories were evovled? I have got some idea from your message but i dont understand the differences.

Initially when India became a legal entity in 1947 its leaders drafted a constitution. Since Dr Ambedkar had seen the nonsense of discrimination he and few others later on added and amended the rights of people whereby the lower castes or tribes were given a special privilege in form of reservation merely so that they can come up and do better socially.
However as Indian tradition goes, lazy people started misusing it and now everyone wants to be a dalit, sc and st etc. to benefit from the situation.
SO much that the selfish, greedy and corrupt men of congress want to include Muslims to this category and later to Christians.
Anyway the story is that due to earlier initiative it did some good on very low level and emanicipated large number of people living in far flung areas.
That is the law or what a constitution or rights charter etc say however the real thing is in real life the discrimination on social level.
All above efforts were to uplift economically BUT not socially.
Henceforth socially the deprived are still deprived and they are shunned by so called higher caste as people of lower strata.
This obviously is the main theme and it is being exploited by our rascal politicians with petty idea of getting a killer win at elections.
Now with economic growth and urbanization the differences between so called lower castes or deprived people and the regular middle class or economically deprived "higher" castes are so minimal that there is no point in following the special labeling and reservations to lower castes.
Instead the Dalits or anyone economically and socially deprived persons should be given preference based on their income and NOT simply because they are labeled or classed as sc or st.
Dalit is a much abused term by disgustingly ugly Christian missionaries who are misleading the so called deprived people to label them as dalits and make them christians. This obviously is like stealing souls from someone's identity.
Hence the so called dalit leaders are actually selling their dalitness or oppressed situation to christian missionaries who give them some small reward and an assurance of higher respect.
This obviously is a mess.
India will change in next decade or so.
For now the best is to reject it on all social levels and treat every single person as a human being and not labeled or classed as government functionaries or employees.
This is a situation caused by our greed and selfishness and nothing else and of course the false vanity and hypocracy of so called higher castes NOT all but some.
Fortunately the awareness, television and education will bring forth changes that we require and those changes are actually change in our attitude.
This attitude that this man is darker, shudra or tribal or primal or whatever is bad and a fairer man is better. This nonsense must end now.
All these propagators of fair beauty and higher caste crap must be executed or shunned but this will take some more years.
I believe by 2012 that is in 5 years India will change in this respect.
We must reject all these labels and marry whosever we want. OBVIOUSLY you must get ready to leave a small village or mohalla or block of the city where you live and start a new life somewhere else as still in this time, every single day dozens of youth are killed by so called caste dominated societies. It is not a story but reality.
However with TV and media things are changing. We should change and be the change and we will change India.

Yes you are right it is a theory and quite foolish, but unfortunately it is not merely a theory but it is a practice that has been misused and abused for thousands of years.
It is time to either understand the true meaning or we must create a law to ban any such system.
However the mal-intentioned, selfish crooks politicians will never ever do that. India is doomed for this reason and Islam and Christianity was able to control innocent people for this very reason and now Indian voters are controlled by this theory. How stupid Indians can be?

I am apalled. Here is a brilliant article by Kapila on how the caste system has poisoned the Indian society and how the very meaning of the four Varna's is determined by who we choose to be in a given moment - we have these two gentlemen fighting over Khatri and Kshatriya and interpretations of history. It doesn't matter if you have pure Aryan blood in your veins, because, you are all four at some point of time in your lives. Stop this madness.

Khatris were, are, and will always be the true Kshatriya caste that makes up the original Aryan people from Central Asia and the Iranian plateau.
However, as other groups invaded India between 3rd-9th century AD.......such as the Jatts, Ramgharias, Tarkhans, Gujjars, etc. also from Central Asia, whose blood was a mix of a few races (Aryans, Mongols, Central Asian Turks, Huns, etc.).....all these tribes had their own ruling parties, and they were admitted into the Kshatriya caste. Kshatriyas are not a race, rather a mix of many races representing a level on the social structure of the caste system. But, before these invading tribes came, the Kshatriya caste was only made up of the Khatris (the original Kshatriyas). Just look at Khatri last names, a great majority of the names derive from some sort of military word and vocabulary, stemming from Sanskrit.
From these invaders, only a few tribes were permitted into the Kshatriya fold, as for the rest, they were dispersed amongst the Vaishya and Shudra caste as agriculturalists, laborers, and farmers. These groups invaded because of the alliance they made with Brahmins to rid the existing Kshatriya caste (Khatris) from power because most were gaining to much power over the Brahmins and many were following Buddhism because of the influence of the Greek/Bactrian invaders from Bactria (what is now modern day northern and eastern Afghanistan). However, for the few ruling tribes of the invaders (mostly who were Rajputs) these invaders were not able to rid the Khatris of power, so most of them settled and established their own kingdoms in Rajputana (what is now Rajasthan and UP states). In all these changes and power shifts, many Khatris diversified their lifestyles and many went into the merchant business and became business men.......however, many still stayed in their ruling power levels and continued to hold positions as high military officials, rulers, landlords, civil admins, etc. even into modern day. That is why Khatris are a more urbanized community compared to Jatts or Gujjars, etc etc.
Tell me, if Jatts are considered Kshatriya, then why are so many farmers in Punjab, Haryana, etc.??? Can you answer this question with a logical and meaningful answer….
Most Indians are aryans in every corner purest in the world. No racial mixing as pushed by foreigners. The Khatri a good caste is Aryan but Khatri are merchants. The Punjabi Khatris are liked in the West as people think they are money-minded and can be bought. Not all Punjabi Khatris are such. The Kshatriyas (such as Rajputs, Jats etc) are the warriors.

The main purpose of Varnashrma Dharma (so-called caste system) was to organise the society based on functions. It was social organization based on guna (quality) and karma (activity/work), not based on skin color or race etc.
Four systems, knowledge-education system (Brahmins), political rule-military system (Kshastriyas), business and commerce system (Vaishyas), working-service-farming system (sudras). These systems were symbiotically linked, complementary to each other. However, like a ny other systems this got generated. So, now we must stop completely caste system and identify us just as HIndus/Sanatan Dharmi.
Vedas nowhere mentioned any caste system. Let we hindu society unite and act together for the prosperity of Bharat and our dharma.
